A park filled with blooms
Kromlau Park was laid out by Roetschke, who is believed to have been inspired by Prince Pückler and his park in Bad Muskau.
The planting of rhododendrons and azaleas was commissioned by Count Friedrich Leopold von und zu Egloffstein from 1890. The park's moist, boggy soils and hollows proved ideal for this – so much so that
their cultivation developed into an industry of its own, with buyers all around the globe. From 1893 onwards, this task was entrusted to park inspector Georg Eichler, who was a founding member of the German dendrological society in 1892. He not only transformed Kromlau into a rhododendron park, but also complemented it with countless other rare woody plants.
The stately home sits at the centre of Kromlau Park. It affords a chequered history and was last renovated extensively in 2015. Today, it houses Kromlau's tourist information centre, along with a stylish room for weddings, a holiday apartment and further inviting rooms, which are also open to the public.
